Changes in the Cub Scout Program for Scoutmasters and Scouts BSA Troop Leaders

Scoutmasters: Here are some changes coming to the AOL program starting June 1. 

Webelos 1 and Webelos 2 are gone! 

• • Webelos is a fourth-grade program only, beginning the day they leave the third grade. 

  • AOL and AOL Scouts is a fifth-grade-only program and begins the day they leave the fourth grade. 

What does that mean for Scouts BSA Troops?

• • You must plan for visits from AOL dens in August and September 2024. Their first requirement, which they can start as early as June 1, requires them to visit a troop. You should expect and invite them early in the Fall, anytime really, but probably in the August and September time-frame instead of the current late Fall-early Winter time frame. 

  • The AOL program is designed to be completed in the January-February time frame, so you must plan to be welcoming crossovers in January and February 2025.
